Do Good Anyway

Hey Everyone. Its been awhile since I've really just sat down and wrote a post from the heart. I'm not the best writer and so many times I struggle to my thoughts in to words. Let's just say I'll never write a novel. I do enjoy posting on this little blog of mine from time to time about faith,  life experiences, and  other fun things.

I love people, groups and socialization but do you ever go into a crowd and feel so annoyed? This has been an experience of mine lately. Here is an example, we went to the pool at our apartment complex on Memorial day to enjoy some swim time. Not even 10 minutes into our visit, another couple entered the gate smoking their cigarettes. Now, if you are a smoker, I'm not trying to offend... that is fine but please smoke in your home or in a designated place, not in public places/groups of people (i.e. at a movies in the park, another experience)... To be fair, there are NO "no smoking" signs at the pool but anyways. The hubs has bad allergies and (as you know) I'm pregnant so we can't be and choose not to be around smoke. As soon as the couple parked their towels right next to ours, they continued to puff puff puff. The pool area is not a large area so you can basically smell it everywhere you are. It's not like I think I am going to die from second-hand smoke but it is a bit rude. Annoyed, my sweet husband looked at me and said, "Let's just go home." We climbed out of the pool, picked up our towels and walked back to the apartment... trying to think of something else to do to make Noland's extra day off a fun day.

Do you ever have those days so easy to let stupid things get you down. For Noland & I, the smokers at the pool pretty much ruined the plans for our day. Luckily, I married the most positive caring person alive and he is really good at coping with difficult situations as well as quickly thinking of other fun ideas. It ended up raining so we had a 2 patriotic movies marathon, played some board games then went to the mall to window shop/get some exercise via walking. We may have stopped at the Cookie Co. too...

I have this "Inspiration For Living" quote from Mother Teresa that hangs in my kitchen. Lately, I find myself reading it everyday. Not that I'm perfect but it just helps one put things in perspective. Here's what it says:

People are unreasonable, illogical, and self-centered;
Forgive them anyway

If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives;
Be kind anyway

If you are successful, you will win some false friends, and some true enemies;
Be successful anyway

What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight,
Build it anyway.

If you find serenity and happiness, others may be jealous;
Be happy anyway.

The good you do today, people will often forget it tomorrow;
Do good anyway.

Give the world the best you have and it may never be enough.
Give the world your best anyways.

In the final analysis, it is between you and God.
It was never between you and them anyway.
-Mother Teresa

This little poem speaks so much truth. Sometimes things in life don't go as planned like our day at the pool. It is OK. You just have to get up and keep going. Choose to be happy and you will be happy. Choose to make your day fun and it will be. My husband is really good at living by this poem... I don't know if he realizes it. He always chooses to do what is right regardless of the extra work it requires or regardless of those who are unhappy because they wish he did the wrong thing. He is fair, loving and forgiving.. and I am blessed.

So when life gets you down, just remember this poem.
It's not about others, its about you and being the best you can be for our creator.
So this may have not been the most eloquent of posts but Do Good Anyway

That's all for today,
xoxo Jen.

Easy Calzone Recipe

One of my favorite things to make is Pizza. My husband loves Hawaiian Pizza and I've shared the easy recipe before here. But the other night I was thinking about something different but similar to pizza to make that's easy. I like to mix it up every now and then.. so I thought, I'll make calzones.
As simple as pizza and as Yummy.
So here they are.. topped with some oil and parm cheese. The inside is hawaiian cheese with cheese and pineapple.. Here's how to:

Ingredients:
Chunk pineapple, Ragu Pizza Quick, Pillsbury Pizza Crust and Mozzarella cheese.

Easy & Quick Directions:
1. Open your pizza dough and stretch it out. I cut mine in half to have to sections of dough to make 2 different calzones. These were huge so you could probably cut them in half again and make 4 total calzones:

2. I added some Pizza Quick sauce:

3. Then I added toppings. Mine I just put mozzarella cheese.. and Noland's, I added pineapple and cheese:

4. Then I folded then in half from top to bottom and made sure to close up all the ends..
so it all stays in while baking:

5. Then put them in the oven to bake. Bake according to the pizza crust directions. Then add about 5 minutes depending on golden brown color. I like to bake it on my pizza pan that has air holes.. It really lets the pizza/calzone cook all the way through.

6. When done, it will be golden brown and beautiful:
One of mine leaked a little sauce on the right..
After they were done, I topped with some light melted butter and Parmesan cheese.. but they are yummy even without any topping... Cut it open and eat some cheesy goodness.
Hope you make some of these cause they were super easy dinner and delicious! I'd love to hear your thoughts! That's all for today!

Zoo America

Zoo America
Hershey, Pennsylvania
Date of Visit: Several Times (Most Recent 7/2008)
Price: $10.50 (Free With Hershey Park Admission)

This zoo is connected with Hershey Park. Their is a separate entrance if you go there and not to the park, but why would you. If you go to Hershey Park, you get in free. Since this is probably the most underrated amusement park in the country, I would say the zoo is just an added bonus. I would definitely recommend taking a trip to Hershey Park at some point in your life. One day I will take Jenna and lil' Noland to the park to enjoy it. Unfortunately, since the visits to this zoo come pre-Jenna, no pictures. We will have to rely on the zoo website for the pics.

Highlights: It's free! Nice little add on to the park. They have a bald eagle.

Disappointments: It is small, but it is nice as an add on to Hershey Park and you treat it as that.

Pictures:
American Alligator
Gray Wolf
River Otter
Prairie Dog
Owl

Rating: We gave this zoo 3 out of 5 elephants. It is a great value when you consider it is attached to an awesome amusement park. I definitely recommend it. They currently have a bald eagle and reindeer that were not there upon my visit. Check it out though because it sounds pretty cool!

Movie Monday: Act of Valor

Happy Memorial Day!
My wonderful husband wrote this review today. I'm so thankful! So here he goes:
Today we decided to review the most recent military movie because it is Memorial Day. The big draw to this movie and main reason we went is that it starred active duty military personnel. This movie actually portrayed our heroes as heroes!
We actually really liked this movie. Do not listen to the critics. In fact, this movie shows exactly why we do not like most critics. This movie showed our military for what they are, true unselfish heroes. Is that why the critics hated it? It showed Americans as good people which for me is a true refreshing story. I personally am not a big fan of these movies that try to paint Americans as evil.
Here is the preview:
Look, this is just a patriotic movie. It is low budget, does not have real actors, but has active duty personnel as the main characters in the film. Most critics say the acting is bad and perhaps it is, but these are the real life people. Also Hollywood actors didn't make money from this movie, but the military did. What an easy way to support the military with this movie.
The action scenes were really good in this movie. As a guy, I thought this movie had tremendous action. This type of movie is my favorite movie just like most guys. I loved the fast pace action. I loved the patriotism. I could sacrifice the acting because I realized that these weren't real actors. Once again, I would personally prefer to see a true hero than an actor anyway. Finally, I will put it this way, if you like Jarhead, you probably won't like this movie, but if you prefer action movies that actually portray our country positively than you will love it.
-----
It's Jenna again... I loved this movie. Like the hubs said, for guys it had all the action and a great story-line. I must say for us girls, it had the heart, the love, the passion between husband and wife and the difficulty when one's husband leaves to go fight for our country. As we left the theater, I told Noland that it takes such a special type of person to be able to sacrifice their husband's time and life on a daily basis. I'm so thankful for all those who fight for our country, our protection and our freedom! I am appalled by the negative reviews this movie received. This movie was fantastic. If you've got a love for patriotism, I would say this is a great movie to watch... We will be purchasing this one for the movie collection. Let me know if you've seen it or watch it. As always, I'd love to hear your opinions.
That's all for today! Thanks for stoppin by,
xoxo Jen.

Half Tee Review

Have you heard of the Half tee
This is such a great piece of clothing.
Here's how it works:
They have the Half tee in a variety of colors, and sleeve lengths.
They also have maternity Half tees here and Half tees for little girls here
The best part about the half tee is that it's modest.
If you are like me, I'm super self-conscious about my shoulders showing. It hides them perfectly.
-----
I've been meaning to do this review for awhile but I've had trouble because I'm not good at taking pictures of myself and well, the husband is not the best photographer either.
Forgive my lack of pictures including my face.. it is super broken out from pregnancy hormones
My half tee is the "boyfriend" maternity version in Navy Blue.
I love it and wear it often. You can wear it with dresses and tank tops and it goes so well.
there's that baby bump.
forgive the toilet in the background

the Half-tee is easy to add to any outfit.
Sorry about no full body pics.. but you get the idea. The Half tee is AWESOME.
It's made from t-shirt material so its soft and comfy and keeps you from getting over heated
on a summer day!
Do you have a Half tee? Want a Half-tee? Need a Half-tee? I'd love to hear your thoughts!
Check out the Half-tee website if this is the first you've heard of it.
That's all for today!
Thanks for stoppin by,
xoxo Jen.

Magical Bathtub Cleaner & War

I've been on Pinterest a lot lately.
I'm also going through this Spring cleaning phase too.
We are hoping to move to a town home in July sometime. And for some reason we've been having a roach problem at our apartment and that's a long story. First, I want to say that I'm a neat freak so this should not be happening. In short, we took down our bathroom mirror and there is a huge hole behind it. Roaches have been crawling in through there and I have no idea if its a nest or what. I taped over it until they come fix it up. I've been so frustrated as I've seen many roaches in the past week as I get up to go to the bath room at 3am. Therefore, I'm cleaning and spraying Raid along all edges, windows, any place I deem necessary as I wait for a visit from the bug man. Scanning pinterest for the best bug and cleaning remedies..
And so, I have discovered the best bathtub cleaner on Pinterest.
Here's how to:
Get yourself an empty squirt bottle.
Mix 1 parts Blue Dawn Dish Soap &
2 parts White Distilled Vinegar!
Shake Shake Shake it up.
Ready, Set, Clean.

This is a magical formula. I sprayed it all over the tub... let it sit about 20 minutes and came back with a sponge to scrub. It was amazing and got out stains that I was unable to remove with 409 and Kaboom. All I have to say is...One bathroom clean, on to the other bathroom tomorrow... yay!

Due to the fact, that I in no way invented this... I will give credit to this blog (Life Crafts & Whatever!)
Yay! So excited for cleanliness. Pray that the bugs go away. I feel at war for my apartment. Luckily, we'll be out of here in about 2 months.
That's all for today! Thanks for stoppin' by:
xoxo Jen.

Tallahassee Museum of History and Natural Science

Tallahassee Museum of History and Natural Science
Tallahassee, Florida
Date of Visit: Several Times (Most Recent 1/2009)
Cost: $9 Adult
$8.50 Student (W/ ID)
This zoo is pretty cool and is a zoo even though it is labeled a museum. The neat thing about it is that it is in Tallahassee and easy to get to from there. Unfortunately, it is a bit overpriced and pretty small. My most recent trip was also made before I met Jenna, so she has never been. You guessed it, that means poor pictures. I can borrow some from online though and post.

Highlights: Location, Location, Location. It also had very good displays for the Florida Wildlife. That is all that is on display at this place though other than a guest animal exhibit which changes from time to time. The coolest thing about this place is the albino squirrels moving about.

Disappointments: Price. Small. Definitely not as cool as Wakulla Springs and more pricey. If you are in the area, I recommend driving to Wakulla instead. Here is our review of Wakulla.

Pictures (Courtesy of the website)
Entrance
Guest Animal Habitat. When I have visited it usually is some monkeys.
Natural Florida. This section focuses mainly on plant life, but sometimes you can see the squirrels moving through here and there is a tortoise in one part.
American Alligator
Black Bear
Florida Panther
River Otter
White Squirrel
Rating:
I gave the Tallahassee Museum 2 out of 5 elephants. It was pretty average and when you factor in price below average, but some things were pretty neat. I may go back some day.
