Leesburg Animal Farm

Leesburg Animal Farm
Leesburg, VA
Dates of Visit: July 2009
Back in July 2009 and several times before that I visited the Leesburg Animal Farm with my family back home in Virginia. This zoo is the actually probably below average and does not have a lot of animals, but it is a solid place to go if you live in Loudoun County Virginia and are bored. They do have zebras if nothing else. It is a neat little place to go with little ones too as we went with my nephews on this date.

Highlights:  The nephews got to have fun and it was incredibly close to my parents house.
Here are some pics...
Nephew feeding a llama
Trying to feed something else
Now feeding a goat
Little Brother In the Petting Zoo
Peacocks
Monkeys
Riding a Horse

I give this one 2 out of 5 rating because:
It was pretty pricey for a glorified petting zoo that you can walk through in an hour. We finished so quickly that my nephews were not even tired. It does have some neat animals and is not completely worthless. The zoo was not spectacular, but does get some points for being so close. Pretty much the best you can do for animals without driving outside of Loudoun County though.

M&M Easter Poem

Happy Easter Monday!!!
Here is another fun Easter thing to do with kids...Found here
M&M Easter Poem!
These candies tell a story.
the best news you’ll ever hear.
It’s about Jesus dying on the cross
so that we could be brought near.

So hold them and turn them and you will see…
the “M” become a “W”an “E” and then a “3″

The “E” stands for… Easter….
God’s everlasting love and His eternal plan.

It reminds us of the cross
and the way God rescued sinful man

The “3″ represent the 3 days Jesus spent in the grave….
By His death, His children He did save

The “M” reminds us of the mercy the Messiah showed
as He died in our place.
and the miracle of the resurrection
so we can see Him face to face.

The “W” reminds us… that He alone
is worthy of our worship and praise
and calls us to be His witnesses
around the world for all of our days.

I just thought it was so cute and I know our future kid is going to love that one. Did you have a good Easter celebration? We went to church and then sure had a nice relaxing day. Today is all about catching up on my homework...
Thanks for stoppin by, See you tomorrow!
xoxo Jen.

Happy Easter! & Resurrection Rolls Recipe!

Happy Easter!
my husband got the basket on the right for me and the basket on the left for our future baby. Haha isn't he the sweetest?
I'm back again and off for most of this week...Yesterday... to celebrate Easter a little early, we made some resurrection rolls. This is a great tradition to start with kids and really demonstrates the empty tomb. Here's the recipe along with pictures and the bible verses that go along:

Ingredients:
1 can of large crescent roll dough
8 large marshmallows
1/4 cup melted butter
1/4 cup cinnamon sugar
Bible

Directions:
1. Preheat the oven according to the package directions for the crescent rolls. While the oven is preheating, read John 19. (Noland did this while I was prepping)
2. Open the crescent roll dough and lay it out. Melt the butter in a bowl. Pour some cinnamon sugar in a bowl like so:
3. If you are doing this with some kiddos, explain that the butter represents the embalming oils they used on Jesus' body at his burial. The cinnamon sugar represents the spices that they used to prepare Jesus' body. The crescent rolls represent the cloth that Jesus' was wrapped in.
4. Each child gets a marshmallow which represents Jesus: all white and pure because he was without sin.
5. Dip a marshmallow in the butter then the cinnamon sugar and then roll in the crescent roll. Make sure to close all holes otherwise this won't work properly.
6. Make sure they are wrapped up really good.... You don't want the marshmallow to seep out.
(Forgive the pan.. its old and stained.. but clean, I assure you.)
7. I liked to pour the rest of the butter and the cinnamon sugar on top. This might be over doing it a little bit though because they came out a little sticky... but I love sugar and preferred them like cinnamon rolls.
8. Here is what they looked like pre oven:
9. Bake according to the crescent roll directions...
10. When they come out of the oven (which represents the tomb) The cloths of crescent roll are EMPTY.
No marshmallow...
This is really awesome and this represents Jesus' resurrection in a really neat way! Especially for kids. My husband doesn't like marshmallows and he liked the rolls too...
-----
On a final note: I'm thinking of starting a link up on Wednesdays... You could link up whatever you want of your posts... even a post on life and family, and I would love to feature my favorites for the week prior. Let me know of your interest in the comments box.
I'm also contemplating a blog switch day on Tues or Thursday. This would involve you guest posting on my blog to get more friends and me guest posting on your blog on the same day! Email me at itsjustcalledspicy@gmail.com if you are interested.
This will all begin as of late April/ early May so stay tuned
-----
That's all for today, Hope you have the happiest of Easter Sundays!

Maryland Zoo

Maryland Zoo
Baltimore, Maryland
This is a retro post from one of my favorite all time zoos, the Maryland Zoo.
Date of Visit: July 2008
Highlights: So first off, this may be my favorite zoo I have visited. It was at least until I visited the Atlanta Zoo. The polar bears were awesome because you rarely see them. Penguins and Rhinos were also a great thing to see. The zoo was affordable and you can go before seeing the Baltimore Orioles play a night game as my family did on this day. Such a wide range of animals at this zoo as well. Enjoy some pictures courtesy of my brother, Justin.
Disappointment: Some of the animals seemed to have limited space, but it didn't seem to be too bad.
Artic Fox
Cheetah
Stork
Elephant
Lappet Faced Vultures
Ostrich

Penguins
Polar Bear
White Rhino

I gave it a 5 out of 5!
Leave a comment or your opinion if you have been to the Maryland Zoo!
Thanks,
Noland
