Ranking the Best Disney Songs

Hello blog world, it sure has been a while.

We have been thinking about posting back on this site and with a recent Disney Song ranking, we have seen the perfect opportunity. Buzzfeed did a ranking of their top Disney Songs here. Since we are Disney experts at this point, and have seen all of the movies, we thought our list could be much better than their list. Noland, being the bigger Disney fanatic between us, has posted his list below along with the Buzzfeed ranking for each song and a link.

I decided to use the same rules that Buzzfeed used.
"All songs are from animated films that were released in theaters.
All songs must be sung by the character in the movie.
No sequels.
All films made by Walt Disney Studies. So, no Pixar."
I also didn't use James and the Giant Peach and Nightmare Before Christmas which Buzzfeed did. To me Toy Story is way more Disney than those two movies.

The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh also got no love from Buzzfeed. Despite being the movie that brought us many sequels, TV shows, rides, books, etc. This movie and the songs in it were fantastic. The movie was the basis for the ride at Walt Disney World.

I actually enjoy this movie and the music, but this song is a tad overrated IMO. Too slow for me personally. Good song, but not top 5 worthy as Buzzfeed suggests.

Buzzfeed nailed it with this one. This is clearly a top 10 song. It is so full of energy and so great. It is also the best part of Mickey's Philar Magic at Walt Disney World (which is one of our favorite attractions).

09. "Under the Sea" - The Little Mermaid

This song is in a lot of people's top 5 Disney songs and for good reason. It is the most memorable part of the movie and is the song people think about with the movie. It is featured brilliantly on the new ride at Magic Kingdom for the Little Mermaid. Disney nailed it with this happy upbeat song.

08. "A Whole New World" - Aladdin

This song, also a part of Philar Magic is another one on many people's top 5 Disney Songs. For many people it is the #2 song that Disney did. Until recently, I wouldn't have had this in my top 10, but my wonderful wife has got me hooked on Aladdin now.

07. "I Wanna Be Like You" - The Jungle Book

The Jungle Book is my #1 movie and King Louie is a top 5 Disney character for me. That might make me a little biased towards this song, but let's be honest, it is fantastic. Another cheerful, happy, great sounding song from this movie. Jungle Book has one of the best soundtracks of any Disney movie. In my opinion, it has the best soundtrack.

06. "I’ve Got A Dream" - Tangled
Unranked By Buzzfeed

Amazing that this song was not ranked by Buzzfeed. In fact, Tangled got very little recognition period. This song is incredible and goes along with the whole theme of Disney. It was so unexpected and wonderful the 1st time you heard it and it doesn't disappoint after that. Hearing all of the dreams in the song is awesome.

05. "I’ll Make a Man Out Of You" - Mulan

Hearing this song is what actually got me to sit and watch Mulan. It is a pretty good movie and this is clearly the best part of it. It's irony and awesomeness amazes me. Oh ya, it sounds pretty terrific too.

04. "The Wonderful Thing About Tiggers" - The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh

Easily the biggest omission of the entire list. This song is in nearly every Winnie the Pooh movie ever created (and there are a lot). It announces the arrival of an iconic Disney character and is his undisputed theme song. This song certainly should have been on the list. I could argue it on any spot but #1.

03. "The Bare Necessities" - The Jungle Book
Buzzfeed Ranking #16

As I said earlier, I may be a bit biased towards the Jungle Book, but I don't think so here. This song encourages people to focus on the important things in life and not worry about other things. It also is the theme song of the greatest character in all of Disney IMO. Baloo hit a home run with this classic.

02. "Hakuna Matata" - The Lion King

This song was the most memorable from the movie and was the focus for a large part of it. It was the theme song for two of the most lovable characters in all of Disney. The best part of this movie though is that it encourages people to not focus on the past.

Buzzfeed nailed it here. The Disney unofficial theme song and clear choice for #1. This is the only spot on the whole countdown where I matched Buzzfeed exactly.
